Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. (Ephesians 5:1 ESV)
Jesus took on flesh so that He could walk among man, talk with man and show mankind how to act. He lived as a man on this earth, was tempted, tried, mocked and reviled. During all of this He never once sinned. The apostle John tells us that “God is love.” In fact, 1John chapter 4 says this twice (verse 8 and verse 16.) But in today’s devotion verse, Paul tells us to be imitators of God! To me, this means that we are to be love. We are to act like Jesus would act if He were standing in our place. Of course this is certainly much easier said than done. When people hurt us, either verbally of physically, it is our nature to react in ways that are not too loving. For us, it takes a life time of prayer and practice to live as imitators of Christ. But this is what we are to do. Think of all the souls that could be saved if we would be Jesus to the world today. Think of all the lives that would be changed if only we would truly react as Jesus reacted.
I’m preaching to myself here. I know that I have a serious problem in this area. Maybe some of you do too. I’m praying for more of Jesus in my actions and words and I implore you to join me in this prayer. Let’s make a positive, Jesus inspired, difference in the place where we live.
