Where Are We In Prophecy?

The United States has been around for well over 200 years. On the surface it looks likely that we will be around for another 200, or more. However, when you scratch that surface you will see many flaws and cracks that make you wonder.

This used to bother me. I like this country. I am blessed to have been born here. I study other cultures and would like to visit some other countries sometime, but I can’t picture myself living anywhere but the good old USA.

I am also a Christian who is looking forward to the soon return of Christ. So I have to ask myself how the US plays a part in the End Times events. Or does the US play a part?  Let’s look to see what the Bible says.

And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, Son of man, let your face be turned against Gog, of the land of Magog, the ruler of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and be a prophet against him, And say, This is what the Lord has said: See, I am against you, O Gog, ruler of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal: And turning you round, I will put hooks in your mouth and make you come out with all your army, horses and horsemen, all of them in full war-dress, a great force with breastplate and body-cover, all of them armed with swords: Persia, Cush, and Put with them; all of them with body-cover and metal head-dress: Gomer and all her forces; the people of Togarmah in the inmost parts of the north, with all his forces: a great number of peoples with you. Be ready, make yourself ready, you and all the forces who are with you, and be ready for my orders. After a long time you will get your orders: in the last years you will come into the land which has been given back from the sword, which has been got together out of a great number of peoples, on the mountains of Israel which have ever been a waste: but it has been taken out from the peoples and they will be living, all of them, without fear of danger. And you will go up, you will come like a storm, you will be like a cloud covering the land, you and all your forces, and a great number of peoples with you. (Ezekiel 38:1-9 BBE)

There are a lot of countries and rulers named in this prophecy yet I don’t see the US listed anywhere. Many of the countries named are unfamiliar to us today but they are all in the east and Middle East. We’re looking at Turkey, Russia, Iraq and Iran, for the most part. Remember that everything about last days prophecy centers around Israel and Jerusalem in particular.

It doesn’t look like the US is mentioned. Does that mean that we are going to be gone? Or ineffective? Maybe yes to either of these questions. It could also be that because of the distance that we aren’t major players. If America exists when this all goes down we will be contributors in some way, I’m sure, but remember, it revolves around Jerusalem!

I believe that Jesus’ return is going to be during my lifetime and I’m sixty-six years old. So, yes, I think it will be soon. (This is my opinion, not prophecy.) There are many ways that the US can become ineffective very quickly. I see several of these things happening now.  World Net Daily had an article that I liked that pointed to one way that we could cut ourselves out of the picture. Here we can see the falling into chaos that George Orwell predicted in his book 1984.  This is a disturbing picture of what we see happening in America now. Glen Beck co-wrote a series of books based on the UN’s Agenda 21.

Do I think any of this will happen really soon? I’m sorry to say that I do believe that something will happen soon. I don’t know, maybe what I’ve talked about above or maybe something very different. That are two things that I do know.

First, God has everything under control. He knew what was going to happen before the creation of the world. He laid out the plan of redemption on Genesis chapter 3. Whatever takes place in the US or anywhere else in the world, it is His plan.

Secondly, I know that no matter what, I have a place reserved for me in His Kingdom. Whether that place is in Heaven or on a new earth, the reservation is there. Thank-you Jesus!

Time is getting short and things may seem like they are falling apart. A lot of people are fretting, worrying and even flipping out over the events that are taking place in Washington. And I suspect that it’s only going to get a lot worse.

We are not promised deliverance out of the tribulation, but we are promised that Jesus will be with us through whatever we go through. Remember Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego? When threatened with being thrown into the furnace what was their response? “If it happens, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image which you have set up.” (Daniel 3:17-18 WEB)

They were firm in their commitment to not worship the idol and they believed God would rescue them. But even if God choose not to rescue them, they still would not bow down! This is the mindset that we need as we go into these years of trials and tribulation. No, it won’t be easy, but Jesus will be with us. Will He save us like he did these three? Maybe not, but we cannot bow to the political and false religious idols no matter what.  Our reservation is waiting and we shouldn’t do anything that would jeopardize that.

Truth

Truth

What is truth? The popular belief today is that what may be true for you isn’t necessarily true for me. It’s called relative truth, and people love it. It relieves them of responsibility for their bad behavior.  They don’t have the need to learn right from wrong because it’s not their “truth”.

What they don’t realize is that this way of thinking is placing them in bondage; literally making them slaves. Of course, they don’t realize this any more than the Jews that Jesus was speaking to realized it. When He told them that the truth would set them free they got all indignant and huffy saying, “We are the descendants of Abraham,” they answered, “and we have never been anybody’s slaves. What do you mean, then, by saying, ‘You will be free’?” (John 8:33 GNB)

People today can’t accept that they are slaves, or in bondage, to sin. They refuse to believe that continually living in sin shows that they are children of Satan. Yes, this is a strong statement, but Jesus made it, not me. He told them, “You are the children of your father, the Devil, and you want to follow your father’s desires. From the very beginning he was a murderer and has never been on the side of truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he is only doing what is natural to him, because he is a liar and the father of all lies.” (John 8:44 GNB) Yes, it is a strong statement, but it is a true statement. It is a statement that the world will not, and is unable to, accept because the truth is not in them.

So, what is the truth? Or, more specifically, what is the Truth? The Truth is: Jesus was born of a virgin and the Holy Spirit. The Truth is: He lived a sinless life. The Truth is: He died for OUR sins, never having committing sin Himself. The Truth is: He rose from the dead and ascended to Heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father.

The TRUTH is: Jesus is the ONLY way to salvation. This is not relative. This is not flexible. While you may not accept this as your truth, it is, in fact, the Truth. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one goes to the Father except by me.” (John 14:6 GNB) I didn’t make this up because I want more people to go to church. Jesus said this because He wants more people to go to Heaven!

If you can accept this message then you are blessed. Repent, proclaim Jesus as Lord and be baptized. Follow His teaching and commandments. As He said, His yoke (burden or harness) is easy and His load is light because He helps us carry it.

Blessed are the Peacemakers

I am seeing a lot of news articles about so called Christians fighting, cursing and causing trouble against people or groups that aren’t Christian. This is WRONG! Jesus never promoted violence. As the Son of God, He cleansed the Temple, but no where does the Bible call for us to do violence against anyone, ever.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God.” Peacemakers. Not rioters, not fighters, not rabble rousers.

We cannot, in love, let people continue in sin without warning, but never should our warnings be hateful or arrogant. Point to the scripture and lovingly show how the Holy Spirit can lead them into a path of righteousness. Calling names is not right.

I know most of my friends don’t need this reminder, but please repost this so that those for whom the Spirit intended this message will see it.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions…

Have you ever had a tough decision to make? One that was important, maybe even critical, and you wanted to be sure you were making the best possible decision?

Well, I’m in that position again. It has been one week since the last heart episode and I’m not working. It’s looking like I won’t be doing any physical work for quite some time, if ever. Social Security covers the rent but that’s about all. So I have to decide what I’m going to do.

Of course there are legitimate work from home options. And I’m looking into some of these but something (Someone?) keeps drawing me back to the original plan that I had when I first started this WordPress journey ten years ago.

I have no doubt that I should be writing. It burns in my bones. Almost every day I see something and say, “I could write a blog about that.” Well, why don’t I? Because I have a wife to feed and bills to pay.

Should I combine my longing to teach and write with my need for an income? Probably, but will we survive during the long period of time it takes for a blog site to begin generating a livable income? I don’t know. And I’m afraid.

I know. We were not given a spirit of fear, but the fear is there nonetheless. It’s a reality. We’ve been homeless before and it’s not a pleasant experience. Nor one that I desire to repeat.

So, short of the heavens opening up and a myriad of angels telling me what to do, I’m still at a loss for answers. Maybe you can help?

I’m not asking for money or pledges of money. I can go to a number of apps that will place ads on my site and I can get sponsors. The question is, will I still have a readership if I do this? Most ad apps require a base or minimum number of hits per week. Right now I don’t even have that minimum. So I need your help. Will you subscribe to and read my posts and tell others about them? The more hits my site receives the better.

If you have suggestions on what subjects you want to see, that’s awesome too. I’m looking into two options for now. One, I want to do some old fashioned, verse by verse Bible study. We seem to have drifted away from this and I believe that in this time of spiritual and social upheaval studying God’s Word is crucial.

I’m also thinking about blogging about current political and social issues. Not as a complainer but to look at what’s happening from a Biblical, Christian viewpoint. WWJD? Remember this? What Would Jesus Do?

So what are your thoughts? If you would be willing to pledge your readership and help in spreading the word, comment below or on my Facebook page.

Also, if you do choose to help financially, you can click the link below. No amount is to small. I love you all. Have a truely blessed day in Jesus’ name.

The Virgin Birth

WHY IS THE VIRGIN BIRTH IMPORTANT?

“Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14)

Yes, that’s the correct scripture. The Virgin Birth was foretold approximately 735 years before it happened. This is important, as it constitutes the very foundation of Christianity. Let’s take a look.

“Behold, a virgin shall conceive.” There is a miracle here. When the angel told Mary that she was going to have a baby, she didn’t question God’s ability to do this, but she was curious as to how. “And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.” (Luke 1:35)

So this shows that Jesus was born of woman, without male sperm, DNA, etc. humanity was given to Jesus through this. His physical body was created when the egg was “quickened” or fertilized. How? All the Bible says is that the Holy Spirit would “come upon thee.” When the angel spoke to Mary, she understood what the English translations don’t convey. “Come upon” should be translated “supervening superimposition.” This doesn’t read very well and would be frequently misunderstood, so I understand why the translators used “come upon.” However, what it says is God will enter the world of man in a miraculous way. This is why the baby was to be called Immanuel (עמּנוּאל), which means, “With us [is] God.

But it’s not just the miracle of conception without a male contribution. In fact, that is the smallest part of the miracle. I said this was the very foundation of Christianity, right? Consider Paul’s words, “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” (Romans 5:12)

The sin of Adam became racial sin, “by one man sin entered into the world” so we see that anyone born of man, would inherit this sin. If Jesus had a human father, He would not qualify as the perfect Passover Lamb. Jesus inherited not the nature of Adam, but the nature of His Father, God. Jesus was truly fully man (born of woman) and God (born from the Holy Spirit). Jesus spoke more that philosophical or spiritual truth when He called God His Father.

As the Son of יהוה, (Self-existent, eternal, I am what I am) Jesus was truly God incarnate. And this made Jesus the only possible “propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” (1 John 2:2) Without the virgin birth there would be no salvation! Without the virgin birth we would still be under the old covenant. We sing the old hymn, “Jesus paid it all,” and He did; only because of the virgin birth.

So, when you hear people talk about the “myth” of the Virgin Birth, or how it makes a good story you can let them know that if they call themselves a Christian, they have to believe in the literal virgin birth. The virgin birth makes salvation possible. Anything less cancels the saving power of the cross and makes Christianity a sham.

Praise The Lord

Give praise to the Lord, O my soul; let everything in me give praise to his holy name.   (Psalms 103:1 Bible in Basic English)

I have always loved this verse, and those that follow. No matter what is going on in life, we are to give praise to God. Nothing can compare to His glory. Nothing can compare to His blessings. If you are alive, praise the Lord. If you have eaten today, praise the Lord. Even if you are ill, hurting or depressed, give praise to the Lord, for He is worthy of praise.

God gives us so much, and so often we not only fail to thank His, but we ask for more, more and more. Maybe we should stop to thank Him for what we do have. Are you a believer? Then you have forgiveness of sin! What can be better? You are assured of eternal joy and a place with Jesus. No matter what is going on here on earth, in your physical body, you are delivered.

This Psalm goes on to list many of the blessings God gives His people minute by minute. And this list is by no means exhaustive. As I look back over my sixty-three years of life I see many time when He was working to my benefit and I never once thought it. I’m alive today because God intervened. No other reason.

So today, before you do anything else, give praise to the Lord with your entire being.

Contemptible Offering

The LORD Almighty says to the priests, “Children honor their parents, and servants honor their masters. I am your father—why don’t you honor me? I am your master—why don’t you respect me? You despise me, and yet you ask, ‘How have we despised you?’ This is how—by offering worthless food on my altar. Then you ask, ‘How have we failed to respect you?’ I will tell you—by showing contempt for my altar. (Malachi 1:6-7 Good News Bible)

Wow! That’s’ strong language that God used towards the priests. Needless to say God was not happy with them. They were giving Him the lame, blind and sick animals as offerings. They were giving Him animals that they didn’t want and were worthless (verse 8). By doing this they were saying that God’s altar was worthless! And this was contemptible to God. He wanted one of the priests to close the doors to the Temple so that no one would go in to light “useless” fires on His altar. He refused to accept their sacrifices. What a sad testimony.

Today we are seeing the same thing in Christian churches around the country. No, we don’t offer animal sacrifices anymore, but what we offer is still “useless” fire on His altar. If we do not give our best then He will not accept what we offer. That was the problem in Malachi’s day and it’s still the problem today. In fact, this has been the problem since the very beginning. Cain didn’t offer his best to God and God wouldn’t accept second, third or less from him. Nor will He accept that from us. God has not changed, nor will He ever change. One of the few times that Jesus talked about money, He talked about the poor widow who gave only a small “mite” or penny in the offering. Jesus said that she gave more than all of the rich people putting in their large sums. Why? The widow gave all that she had while the rich people were giving their leftovers or extra.

Don’t give Jesus your leftovers. He won’t accept that, ever. I love the song Howard Grose wrote in 1901, Give of Your Best to The Master.

Give of your best to the Master;
Give of the strength of your youth;
Throw your soul’s fresh, glowing ardor
Into the battle for truth.
Jesus has set the example,
Dauntless was He, young and brave;
Give Him your loyal devotion;
Give Him the best that you have.

Refrain:
Give of your best to the Master;
Give of the strength of your youth;
Clad in salvation’s full armor,
Join in the battle for truth.

Give of your best to the Master;
Give Him first place in your heart;
Give Him first place in your service;
Consecrate every part.
Give, and to you will be given;
God His beloved Son gave;
Gratefully seeking to serve Him,
Give Him the best that you have.

Give of your best to the Master;
Naught else is worthy His love;
He gave Himself for your ransom,
Gave up His glory above.
Laid down His life without murmur,
You from sin’s ruin to save;
Give Him your heart’s adoration;
Give Him the best that you have.

Be still

Be still, and know that I am God: (Psalm 46:10 King James Version)

Yes, I know that this verse was written during a time of war and was actually directed towards Israel’s enemies. But we can take heart in it today by knowing that He is still God with all that implies. He is still Almighty, omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent. No other being can claim this.

Today I want to urge you to “be still” and listen to what He has to say to you. God often speaks in a “small, still voice” (1 Kings 19:13) and we have to hush all of the worry and bustle around us to hear Him.

When you hear people talk about going into a prayer closet, this is what they mean. It might be a literal closet, or just a quiet spot where you can sit or kneel for a while and seek His presence. Sure, you can pray while doing other things and you should. In fact you should pray all the time, but there needs to be a time, every day, if possible, when you just shut down and let God fill you with His wonderfulness. Listen to Him as you read His word and sense the answers to your prayers as you are praying.

Be still and know that He is God.

Reaping what you sow

Do not deceive yourselves; no one makes a fool of God. You will reap exactly what you plant. If you plant in the field of your natural desires, from it you will gather the harvest of death; if you plant in the field of the Spirit, from the Spirit you will gather the harvest of eternal life. (Galatians 6:7-8 Good News Bible)

Have you ever planted roses and found grapes growing on the rose bushes? Of course not. Apples don’t grow on pear trees. By the same token spiritual health doesn’t grow when carnal seeds are planted. By thinking this we are trying to make a fool of God, and this cannot happen. We might think we are getting away with it, but the true nature of the plant will always become known.

We have seen this in public figures and it’s especially troubling when it’s a well-known preacher who falls. But it will happen to us as well if we persist in sinning. I know that we all are imperfect and slip from time to time, but that’s certainly not what I’m talking about. When you slip, not matter how hard the fall, repent and ask God to forgive you and He will. The Bible says that He no longer remembers the sins of those who truly repent (turn away from) their sins.

What Paul was talking about in his letter was deliberate, continual sin. Doing what you know is wrong and continuing to do it even when the Holy Spirit is prompting you to turn away from this behavior. You can’t continue to live like this if you are a believer. God will not be mocked and that what this is doing.

The Southern Gospel group The Chuckwagon Gang sang a song many years ago that had a line that said, “God will set your fields on fire, if to sin is your desire.” Have you ever wondered why nothing is going right? Are you trying and still not succeeding? Maybe it’s the devil blocking you but maybe it’s unrepented sin in your life? Ask God to show you where you have to change then ask Him to help you make the needed changes. He will. He wants you to live a life that brings glory to Him and will help you, even if that help is “to set your field on fire.”

Christians in wolves’ clothes

For some godless people have slipped in unnoticed among us, persons who distort the message about the grace of our God in order to excuse their immoral ways, and who reject Jesus Christ, our only Master and Lord. Long ago the Scriptures predicted the condemnation they have received. (Jude 1:4 Good News Bible)

We hear a lot about false teachers today. But how do we tell the difference in a true teacher and a false teacher. Often the false teachings are so close that it’s almost impossible to put your finger on the difference. The deceiver wants to deceive the believers and he frequently does this with slight, subtle variations on the Word.

Remember when Satan tempted Jesus? Satan used the Word, or I should say misused the Word. Satan quoted Psalm 91:11 correctly but took it out of context and applied it incorrectly. He does the same thing today. False teachers, prophets and preachers correctly quote the scripture but pull it out of context and misuse it. This is why it is sometimes hard to tell who they are. They use God’s very own Word as their calling card and we can sometimes get confused.

Paul said that in the last days there would be a certain kind of people abounding in our gatherings. 2 Timothy 3: 1-9 describes these people as selfish, greedy and boastful. Paul also says that they are merciless, slanderers and violent. Then he advises Timothy (and us) to stay away from such people. Jesus said that by their fruits you will know them. What kind of fruit are these false teachers producing? Often we have to look no further than their teaching to see their fruit. A leader who teaches that abortion is nothing more than a woman’s control of her own body is certainly and obviously not in line with the Word, no matter how many verses he or she quotes. I would like to say that this one is so obvious that no one would ever follow such a leader. Unfortunately, millions around the world and here in the US actually do follow such a leader.

It is imperative that we actually know the Word. Get into a Bible centered study group and do your homework so that you can be better prepared to defend the truth and to actually know the truth.
